Frontend development and User experience design is critical in today’s applications. In this course, students will learn about design – colours, transitions, human factors in man-machine interactions – and how to code them using Javascript, HTML5 and CSS. The use of libraries like Jquery, Bootstrap and AngularJS keeps the students focussed on computational thinking and reduces the need for syntax and language peculiarities. We want to give students a fun and enjoyable experience in coding with as gentle a learning curve as possible.

Students are challenged to build the next BIG THING and create a social site that is responsive. They will be put in Startup mode, and do a Learning Journey to Blk71, the hotbed for Singapore tech startups.
Software requirement:CodeIgniter (Open source framework), Notepad Plus, Brackets, Text Wrangler or any free text-editor/IDE for coding.
Browser (Safari, Chrome, Firefox, IE 8+)
Apache web server, PHP server, mySQL server available as Open Source for Windows (Wamp) or Mac for local development environment. (requires installation)
– Optional Installation Service for Local Development Environment is chargeable at $50 per machine.
Students will learn server-side scripting to do CRUD – Create, Read, Update and Delete. CRUD is essential for database applications – from posting comments on social networks to online shopping. Students will learn the processes in computational thinking – retrieving information, filtering, adding or subtracting, conditional searching and many other core concepts.
